Mukhābarāt (Arabic: مخابرات, also transliterated muḫābarāt / muḵābarāt), is the Arabic term for intelligence, as used by an intelligence agency. In most of the Middle East, the term is colloquially used in reference to secret police agents who spy on civilians.

Kamel was appointed as head of the Mukhabarat in June 2018 after a six-month interim period taking over from Khaled Fawzi, who was blamed for Egypt's instability (IO, 31/01/18).
